The proposed changes are as follows:

For Langley Park School for Boys and Langley Park School for Girls:

At Langley Park School for Boys and Langley Park School for Girls we are proposing to leave admissions arrangements for Year 7 completely unchanged. For Year 12 we are proposing three changes, one for both schools, one just for Langley Park School for Girls and one just for Langley Park School for Boys.

The change we are proposing for both schools is to ensure that the priority for siblings only applies to those with siblings who attend the school where the applicant is applying for 6th form. When the sibling priority was introduced across the two schools in 2023, the intention was for families to be able to travel to just one campus, so that siblings were not split over large distances. However, as currently drafted, the wording is exactly the same for Year 12 as for Year 7. The unintended effect of this is that students attending Langley Park School for Girls who happen to have a sibling at Langley Park School for Girls, have priority in admissions for the 6th form at Langley Park School for Boys (and vice versa), even though the student already attends a school on the same campus as those siblings.

This was never the intention of the admissions authority and so this proposed change to wording reflects the original intention, which was for the additional sibling priority across these two schools to only apply in Year 7. The sibling priority will therefore remain across the two schools as currently drafted for entry in Year 7. In addition, a sibling priority will remain in Year 12 for all applicants with a sibling who attends the school for which they are applying, as set out in the current policies.

In addition, we are proposing one change just for Langley Park School for Girls, which is to change from APS to the number of grades at Grade 4+ (for vocational courses) and the number of grades at 5+ (for A-Level courses) to align with other secondary schools in the trust.

The Board of Trustees is also consulting on one change just for Langley Park School for Boys, which is to introduce a new priority in admissions to Year 12 to allocate up to 12 places (10% of external PAN) for boys and girls who demonstrate sporting aptitude. Those applicants would still be required to meet the Minimum Academic Entry Criteria.

This will not affect internal students, who will continue to have the right to transfer from Year 11 to Year 12 subject to meeting the published academic entry requirements.

For Langley Park School for Boys, Langley Park School for Girls, Hayes School, Ravens Wood School and Darrick Wood School:

In addition, we are proposing minor changes to the wording on the Minimum Academic Entry Criteria (MAEC) for entry in Year 12 at all the Trust’s secondary schools, Firstly, in response to national changes to vocational qualifications, we are proposing wording at all our secondary schools that does not name specific vocational qualifications in the MAEC but instead refers to vocational qualifications more generally. In addition, we are proposing clearer wording to explain the exceptional circumstances in which exceptions can be made to the MAEC, which is in response to instances where the current wording has been misinterpreted. The proposed changes to wording on MAEC are solely to ensure clarity and do not have any practical effect on how policies are applied in practice.
